As an admin you can now configure your business rules for each bundle using the “Rules” object. For example you can let the reps know that they must select minimum 2 items but not more than 4 items from a bundle. Configuring rules is a two step process, tag each bundle item with correct “Category” and then configure rule for that category. One bundle can have more than one categories configured. For example, Hardware and Installation.
The application uses global picklist to control the values for “Category”. Go to Setup >> Picklist Value Sets to create/edit the options.
Once the Category picklist values are configured, you are set to configure the bundle rules. Let’s look at an example below.
Go to the bundle that needs to configured. Make sure the bundle is in “Draft” status. Click on “Edit Line Items” button to tag the bundle items to correct category. Click “Save and Close” to go back to the bundle.
Go to the “Rules” related list and click “New”. Please edit the page layout if you do not see the related list.
Below rule ensures that a rep selects minimum 1 item but more than 2 for “Hardware” category. End users will see the message entered in the “Error Message” field if the rule is violated.
Click “Save & New” to configure one more rule for “Installation” category. Activate the rules by selecting the “Active” flag.
Here is a quick matrix on different rules you can setup for the bundle.
Category | Min | Max | Validation Criteria |
Category A | 0 | n | Total number of bundle items that a user can choose for Category C must be <= “n” |
Category B | m | n | Total number of bundle items that a user can choose for Category D must be >= “m” and <= “n” |
Category C | m | m | Total number of bundle items that a user can choose for Category E must be = “m” |
That is it. You are are done with the rules configuration. Each time the rule is violated, end users will see the corresponding error message and the rule that was violated. They can easily fix it by editing the bundle. In the below screenshot, user has selected one product from “Hardware” category and 2 from “Installation” category which violates the “Installation” rule for the bundle.
When the reps add the bundle to the cart and click “Save” , the error message will be displayed asking them to fix the bundle.
Click the error icon to view the rule in violation and the pencil icon to fix it.
Note: The rules are also honored for the bundle already added to an opportunity or quote and later edited by clicking the “Edit Line Items” button.
